This regulation is the first unified national elevator supervision regulation in India. The core contents include: establishing a unified national supervision system for elevator product standards, certification, installation, maintenance and inspection in India, and canceling the decentralized supervision rules formulated by each state; setting up the Elevator Regulatory Authority of India, responsible for the unified supervision and law enforcement of the national elevator industry; clarifying the mandatory BIS certification requirements for elevator products, all elevators and core components entering the Indian market must obtain BIS certification; establishing a national elevator registration system, all in-service elevators must complete the unified national registration and filing. The regulation sets a 9-month transition period and will be officially implemented on January 1, 2026.
