ISO Issued ISO 8100-7:2024 International Standard Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 7: Accessibility to lifts for persons including persons with disability
On December 5, 2024, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO 8100-7:2024 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 7: Accessibility to lifts for persons including persons with disability, replacing the old 2018 version, which is the core unified guideline in the field of global elevator barrier-free design. The core upgrade contents of this standard revision include: First, expand the scope of application of the standard, covering passenger elevators, home elevators, escalators and moving walks, adapting to the full-scene use needs of people with visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical impairment, cognitive impairment, and elderly people with reduced mobility. Second, refine the barrier-free design requirements of the elevator car, clarify the mandatory standards for the minimum net size of the car, wheelchair turning space, double-sided handrails, non-slip ground, and barrier-free design, and standardize the barrier-free design requirements of lighting, ventilation and emergency call devices in the car. Third, upgrade the barrier-free specifications of the elevator operation interface, clarify the mandatory requirements that elevator buttons must be equipped with raised Braille, high-contrast visual signs, full-process voice prompts, and tactile feedback, and standardize the design standards for high and low double-row button arrangement, voice broadcast content, and auditory signals. Fourth, add the barrier-free design requirements for elevator entrances and exits, clarify the design standards for landing door opening width, sill gap, waiting hall space, and blind path guidance, to ensure barrier-free access for wheelchair and walker users. Fifth, add the adaptive design requirements for people with cognitive impairment, and formulate special design specifications for simplified operation interface, clear visual guidance, and full-process voice guidance for people with cognitive impairment. Sixth, standardize the test and acceptance requirements of barrier-free elevators, and formulate the process, methods and qualification criteria for the compliance test of barrier-free design. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national standard by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, promoting the standardized development of global elevator barrier-free construction.
