The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officially released the GCC Unified Elevator Safety and Performance Regulations on December 15, 2024, which is the first cross-country unified elevator safety regulation in the Middle East, covering 6 member states including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. The regulation unifies the whole-process safety standards for elevator design, manufacturing, installation, maintenance and inspection in the GCC region, clarifies the unified compliance certification requirements for elevator products entering the GCC market, and replaces the previous independent regulations and standards of each member state. The regulation will officially take effect on January 1, 2026, with an 18-month transition period. During the transition period, member states need to complete the docking and revision of local regulations. From July 2027, all elevator products and related services entering the GCC market must meet the requirements of the unified regulation.
