On April 22, 2025, the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC) officially issued the new version of JIS A 4301 Code for Structure and Safety of Elevators, replacing the old 2018 version, which will be officially implemented on October 1, 2025. This standard is the core national standard of Japan's elevator industry. The core contents of this revision include: First, strengthen the aging-adaptive design requirements of elevators, clarify the mandatory standards for the height of the car operation panel, the size of buttons and the font size, and improve the convenience of use for the elderly. Second, upgrade the barrier-free design specifications, clarifying that elevators in public buildings must be equipped with barrier-free facilities such as voice announcement, Braille buttons, and car handrails. Third, add seismic design requirements for elevators, and refine the seismic design, installation and inspection standards for elevators in view of the geological characteristics of frequent earthquakes in Japan. Fourth, upgrade the safety requirements of the elevator door system, and add mandatory requirements for anti-pinch protection and fault monitoring of the door system. Fifth, add network security requirements for intelligent elevators, and standardize the safety protection design of elevator control systems.
