China Issued National Standard GB/T 46203-2025 Technical Specification for Elevator Noise Control
On September 25, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China officially issued the national standard GB/T 46203-2025 Technical Specification for Elevator Noise Control, which will be officially implemented on April 1, 2026. This standard is the first national special standard in the field of elevator noise control in China. The core contents include: First, clarify the scope of application of the standard, covering noise control, noise testing and noise treatment of passenger elevators, freight elevators, home elevators, escalators and moving walks, applicable to the whole process of elevator design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance, and transformation. Second, establish a classification standard for elevator noise limits. According to the elevator use scenarios, it is divided into four categories: residential buildings, commercial buildings, medical buildings, and educational buildings. Differentiated limit standards for elevator operation noise, machine room noise, and car interior noise are formulated for different building types. Among them, the night operation noise limit of residential building elevators is not higher than 30dB(A). Third, standardize the elevator noise test method, clarify the environmental requirements, measuring point layout, test conditions, instruments and equipment, and data processing standardized process of elevator noise test, to ensure the accuracy and comparability of test results. Fourth, refine the technical requirements for elevator noise source control, and formulate technical specifications for noise reduction design, manufacture and installation for core noise sources such as elevator drive system, guide system, door system, ventilation system and control cabinet, to control elevator noise from the source. Fifth, add the requirements for elevator vibration and solid-borne sound control, clarify the technical standards for elevator vibration isolation design and installation, standardize the sound insulation and noise reduction design requirements of elevator hoistways and machine rooms, and solve the noise pollution problem caused by solid-borne sound transmission. Sixth, formulate technical specifications for noise control of existing elevators, and formulate standardized processes and technical requirements for noise diagnosis, treatment scheme design, construction and acceptance for the problem of excessive noise of in-use elevators. Seventh, clarify the acceptance requirements for elevator noise control, and formulate the acceptance process, test methods and qualification criteria for elevator noise control projects. The release of this standard solves the industry pain points of inconsistent national elevator noise control standards and inconsistent test methods, comprehensively improves the acoustic environment quality of elevators in China, and reduces people's livelihood disputes caused by elevator noise.
