Canada Released Elevator Carbon Neutrality Supervision Policy, Mandatory Green Certification from 2026
On September 20, 2025, Canada Ministry of Environment and Climate Change jointly with Ministry of Housing released Elevator Industry Carbon Neutrality Implementation Path policy, implemented from January 1, 2026. Core contents:
1. Mandatory certification for new elevators: All newly installed elevators must obtain elevator green certification from Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) from 2026, meeting level 2 energy efficiency, low-carbon materials, recyclable ≥85%, zero CFC;
2. Stock transformation target: Carbon neutrality transformation synchronized with old elevator renewal from 2027, 60% of stock elevators compliant by 2030, 80% by 2035, 100% by 2040;
3. Technical requirements: Mandatory energy feedback, intelligent standby, LED lighting, permanent magnet synchronous machine, carbon emission intensity reduced by 40%;
4. Financial incentives: 30% equipment subsidy for carbon neutral elevators, full exemption of green certification fees;
5. Supervision measures: Uncertified new elevators banned from sale, carbon tax imposed on non-compliant stock elevators, fine for exceeding standard from 2028. The policy promotes comprehensive green low-carbon transformation of Canada elevator industry.
