New Colombia ICONTEC Elevator Certification Regulations Implemented in July 2026, New Cybersecurity Requirements
Core changes of the new regulation: First, new cybersecurity requirements, including cybersecurity in elevator certification requirements for the first time, clarifying that smart elevators and IoT elevators must comply with the Colombian cybersecurity framework requirements, and specifying the technical indicators of data encryption, access control, and vulnerability protection; Second, tightened electrical safety requirements, upgraded the safety requirements of elevator electrical systems, introduced the concept of functional safety, requiring elevator control systems to comply with IEC 61508 functional safety standards; Third, upgraded fire performance requirements, clarifying that materials used in elevator cars, landing doors, and shaft enclosure structures must comply with Colombian fire protection standards; Fourth, tightened energy efficiency requirements, upgraded elevator energy efficiency requirements. Passenger elevators entering the Colombian market must reach energy efficiency grade 3 and above; Fifth, adjusted certification process, elevator products must first obtain the ICONTEC type approval certificate, and must apply for the product conformity certificate when each batch of goods is cleared.
