JIS A 4301:2025 Japanese Elevator Structural Safety Specifications Revised
On May 20, 2025, Japanese JISC released revised JIS A 4301:2025 Elevator Structural Safety Specifications, implemented on October 1, 2025. Core updates:
1. Seismic strengthening: Elevator seismic grade upgraded to 9, shaft, machine, car seismic reinforcement, automatic leveling and door opening in earthquake;
2. Accessibility upgrade: Improving braille, voice announcement, wheelchair space, handrail, emergency call, full coverage of aging-friendly design;
3. Cybersecurity: Smart elevator cybersecurity specifications, anti-hacker, data encryption, privacy protection, comply with Japan APPI Act;
4. Old elevators: Structural assessment standards for elevators over 20 years, strength, stiffness, stability test, unqualified elevators renovated or scrapped;
5. Safety components: Safety gears, speed governors, door locks, buffers technical upgrade, test standards improved;
6. Energy efficiency requirements: Level 2 energy efficiency for new elevators, energy feedback, low-power design, green material application;
7. Test verification: Unified specifications for seismic, safety, energy efficiency, cybersecurity test. The standard improves Japan elevator safety and adaptability.
