On June 10, 2025, US ASME released ASME A17.7-2025 Performance-based Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, effective on October 1, 2025. Core updates of the standard:

1. Performance orientation: Shifting from "prescriptive" to "performance-based" safety standards, taking safety objectives as core, allowing innovative technology application;

2. Risk assessment: Mandatory full life cycle risk assessment, identifying, analyzing, controlling safety risks, forming risk documents;

3. Safety system: Electronic safety system (PESSRAL/PESSRAE) SIL certification, redundant design, fail-safe orientation;

4. Cybersecurity: Adding smart elevator cybersecurity requirements, data encryption, access control, vulnerability management, anti-hijacking;

5. Test verification: Performance test, safety verification, failure mode test, ensuring safety objectives achieved;

6. Old renovation: Clarifying performance upgrade path, verification method, acceptance standard for existing elevators;

7. Document system: Reconstructing specifications for risk assessment, safety plan, test report, compliance declaration. The standard promotes US elevator safety technology innovation.
