This policy is issued based on the revision of the German Building Energy Act. The core contents include: from January 2026, elevators in all new public buildings and residential buildings in Germany must meet the EU elevator energy efficiency grade A+++ requirements, and must adopt energy-saving technologies such as permanent magnet synchronous gearless traction machines and energy feedback systems; by the end of 2028, elevators in existing buildings must complete energy efficiency upgrading and transformation, reaching at least energy efficiency grade A requirements; the policy also clarifies the mandatory process of elevator energy efficiency testing and certification. Elevators that do not meet the requirements will not pass the building acceptance and be prohibited from being put into use. The policy simultaneously launches a special subsidy for elevator energy-saving transformation, with the maximum subsidy amount up to 30% of the transformation cost. This policy will promote the low-carbon technology upgrading of the elevator industry in Germany and even the EU, and drive the market demand for energy-saving elevator products.
