IEC Issued IEC 60364-7-729:2025 Low-voltage electrical installations — Part 7-729: Requirements for electrical installations of lifts and escalators — EMC requirements International Standard
On June 12, 2025, the IEC/TC 64 Technical Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission officially issued the international standard IEC 60364-7-729:2025 Low-voltage electrical installations — Part 7-729: Requirements for electrical installations of lifts and escalators — EMC requirements, which will officially take effect on December 12, 2025. It is the first special general international standard in the field of electromagnetic compatibility of elevator electrical installations worldwide. The core contents of this standard include: First, clarify the scope of application of the standard, covering all elevators, escalators and moving walks equipped with electric drive and control systems, applicable to the electromagnetic compatibility control of the whole process of equipment design, manufacture, installation and inspection. Second, establish an elevator electromagnetic compatibility classification system. According to the elevator use scenario, building environment, and electromagnetic environment complexity, the elevator electromagnetic compatibility grade is divided into 4 grades, and differentiated anti-interference and electromagnetic emission limit requirements are formulated for different grades. Third, refine the anti-interference requirements of elevator electrical installations. For common electromagnetic interference scenarios such as electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transient burst, surge, voltage sag, and radio frequency electromagnetic field radiation, the anti-interference performance test methods, limit requirements and qualification criteria of elevator electrical installations are formulated to ensure the safe and stable operation of elevators in complex electromagnetic environments. Fourth, standardize the electromagnetic emission limit requirements for elevators, formulate the limit standards and test methods for conducted emission and radiated emission for core electrical components such as elevator drive systems, control systems, and frequency conversion devices, to avoid electromagnetic interference caused by elevator operation to surrounding electrical equipment, communication systems, and medical equipment. Fifth, clarify the elevator electromagnetic compatibility design guidelines, and formulate special technical specifications for the grounding design, shielding design, filtering design, and wiring design of the elevator electrical system, providing standardized guidance for elevator electromagnetic compatibility design. Sixth, refine the requirements for elevator electromagnetic compatibility installation and inspection, clarify the electromagnetic compatibility protection measures, on-site electromagnetic compatibility test methods, acceptance process and qualification criteria during elevator installation. Seventh, standardize the electromagnetic compatibility assessment requirements for in-use elevators, and formulate special guidelines for electromagnetic compatibility performance assessment and testing for equipment after old elevator transformation and electrical system upgrade. After its release, this standard has been launched into the national standard conversion procedure by more than 100 countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, filling the gap of unified international standards for electromagnetic compatibility of elevator electrical installations worldwide.
