On April 15, 2025, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially issued the international standard IEC 61800-7-205:2025 Adjustable speed electrical power drive systems — Part 7-205: Technical specifications and test methods for elevator energy feedback systems, which is the world's first special international standard for elevator energy feedback systems. The core contents of the standard include: First, it clarifies the classification and applicable scenarios of elevator energy feedback systems, and formulates differentiated selection and design standards for energy feedback systems for different types of elevators and different usage scenarios. Second, it standardizes the electrical performance requirements of the elevator energy feedback system, and clarifies the mandatory technical indicators of energy conversion efficiency, harmonic suppression, voltage stability, and power grid adaptability. Third, it refines the safety protection requirements of the elevator energy feedback system, and formulates special safety protection design standards for risk scenarios such as overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, short circuit, and island effect. Fourth, it has formulated a unified test method and judgment standard for the elevator energy feedback system, and clarified the process, equipment, data collection and calculation methods of laboratory testing and on-site testing, to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the test results. Fifth, it clarifies the requirements for the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and acceptance of the elevator energy feedback system, providing a unified technical guideline for product design, application and compliance inspection of global elevator enterprises. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national mandatory standard by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China and the United States, and has become the core specification for the development of global elevator energy-saving technology.
