IEC Issued International Standard for Electromagnetic Compatibility of Elevator Electrical Equipment
On March 12, 2025, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially issued the international standard IEC 61800-7-204:2025 Adjustable speed electrical power drive systems — Part 7-204: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for generic use — Specific specifications for elevator drive systems, replacing the old 2017 version, which is the core technical guideline for the electromagnetic compatibility design of elevator electrical drive systems worldwide. The core contents of this standard revision include: First, refine the electromagnetic emission limit requirements of the elevator drive system, clarify the mandatory limits of conducted emission and radiated emission of the elevator drive system in different application scenarios, and avoid the elevator electrical system from generating electromagnetic interference to other surrounding electronic equipment. Second, upgrade the anti-interference requirements of the elevator drive system, clarify the anti-interference test standards and performance requirements in electromagnetic interference scenarios such as electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transient burst, surge, and voltage sag, to ensure the stable operation of the elevator electrical system in complex electromagnetic environments. Third, add the electromagnetic compatibility requirements of the intelligent elevator control system, and standardize the electromagnetic compatibility design and test standards of the elevator Internet of Things module, remote monitoring system, and AI control system. Fourth, it clarifies the test method, test environment and judgment standard of the electromagnetic compatibility of the elevator electrical system, and provides a unified technical specification for the electromagnetic compatibility compliance test of global elevator products. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national mandatory standard by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, the United States and China, and has become the core compliance guideline for the electrical system design of global elevator products.
