On January 18, 2025, the National Standards Institute (INN) of Chile, together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Chile, officially issued the New Regulations on Safety Management of Elevators and Escalators, which comprehensively upgraded the certification, maintenance management, emergency rescue and operation supervision of elevator products in the Chilean market. The core contents include: First, upgrade the mandatory INN certification requirements, clarifying that all complete elevator machines and core safety components entering the Chilean market must obtain mandatory INN certification, and uncertified products are prohibited from being imported and sold. Second, strengthen the maintenance management requirements, clarifying that elevator maintenance units must obtain the official qualification license of Chile, carry out routine maintenance every 15 days, and keep maintenance records for at least 3 years. Third, upgrade the emergency rescue requirements, clarifying that the elevator entrapment alarm must be responded within 5 minutes and handled on site within 30 minutes. Non-compliant units will face high fines and license revocation. Fourth, mandatorily implement the annual inspection system for in-use elevators. All in-use elevators must carry out an INN standard compliance inspection once a year, and elevators that fail the inspection must be shut down for rectification immediately. Fifth, clarify the main safety responsibility of the elevator user unit, requiring the user unit to establish an elevator safety management system and 配备 full-time safety management personnel. The new regulation has a 6-month transition period and was officially implemented on July 18, 2025.
