On January 22, 2025, the Ministry of Economy of Mexico, together with the Mexican National Bureau of Standards (DGN), officially issued the New Regulations on Import and Safety Control of Elevator Products, which comprehensively adjusted the tariff policy, market access and safety control of elevator products in the Mexican market. The core contents include: First, adjust the import tariff of elevator products. The import tariff of complete elevator machines is reduced from 10% to 5%, and the import tariff of core elevator components is reduced from 5% to 0, which will be officially implemented on July 1, 2025. Second, upgrade the mandatory NOM certification requirements, clarifying that all complete elevator machines and safety components entering the Mexican market must obtain mandatory NOM certification, and cancel the original exemption clauses for some products. Third, strengthen the inspection at import ports. The customs must conduct 100% verification of the NOM certificate, certificate of origin and test report of imported elevators, and non-compliant products are prohibited from entering the country. Fourth, clarify the annual inspection requirements for in-use elevators. All in-use elevators must carry out a NOM standard compliance inspection once a year, and elevators that fail to meet the standards must be shut down for rectification immediately. The new regulation has a 6-month transition period and was officially implemented on July 1, 2025.
