On April 18, 2024, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially issued the international standard IEC 60364-7-729:2024 Electrical installations of buildings — Part 7-729: Requirements for special installations or locations — Electrical installations for lifts, escalators and moving walks, replacing the old 2015 version, which is the core general technical standard for the design, installation and inspection of global elevator electrical systems. The core contents of this standard revision include: First, upgrade the safety protection requirements of the elevator electrical system, refine the mandatory technical requirements for insulation protection, overload protection and short-circuit protection of the elevator power supply circuit, control circuit and safety circuit, and improve the safety and reliability of the electrical system. Second, add the design specifications for the electrical system of intelligent elevators, clarify the electrical design and safety protection requirements for the intelligent control system, remote monitoring system and Internet of Things devices of elevators, and standardize the isolation design standards for weak current systems and strong current systems. Third, add the network security requirements for the elevator electrical system, clarify the network security protection design specifications for the elevator electrical control system, and prevent the safety risks caused by network attacks on the electrical system. Fourth, refine the design requirements of the elevator emergency power supply system, clarify the power supply design standards of the elevator emergency power supply, emergency lighting and emergency call system, and improve the safety guarantee capability of the elevator in emergency scenarios such as power failure. Fifth, strengthen the energy-saving design requirements of the elevator electrical system, add the energy efficiency evaluation standard of the elevator electrical system, and standardize the design and application requirements of the variable frequency drive system and energy feedback device. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national mandatory standard by many countries and regions around the world, and has become the core criterion for the compliant design of elevator electrical systems worldwide.
