On August 1, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China officially issued the national standard GB/T 24803.2-2025 Safety requirements for lifts — Part 2: Safety parameters meeting essential safety requirements, which will be officially implemented on February 1, 2026. This standard is the core basic standard in the field of elevator safety in China, replacing the old 2009 version, and fully aligning with the ISO 14798 international standard. The core contents include: First, clarify the scope of application of the standard, covering all types of elevators such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, home elevators, machine-room-less elevators, explosion-proof elevators, and fire-fighting elevators, applicable to the safety parameter control of the whole life cycle of elevator design, manufacture, installation, inspection and transformation. Second, establish a classification system for elevator safety parameters. According to the elevator use scenario, operating speed, load level, and safety risk level, the elevator safety parameters are divided into 4 grades, and differentiated safety thresholds and verification requirements are formulated for different grades. Third, refine the design guidelines for core safety parameters of elevators, and formulate accurate parameter limits, calculation methods and design guidelines for core safety dimensions such as elevator speed, acceleration, deceleration, car clearance, safety factor, braking performance, door system protection, and emergency rescue. Fourth, standardize the verification and test requirements for elevator safety parameters, and formulate the standardized process, test methods and qualification criteria for laboratory test, on-site inspection and type test of safety parameters. Fifth, add the safety parameter requirements for elevator electronic safety systems, and formulate special safety parameters and verification standards for electronic speed governors, electronic safety gears, and intelligent safety monitoring systems. Sixth, add special safety parameter requirements for elevator seismic resistance, fire protection and barrier-free scenarios, and achieve coordination and unification with the latest building safety, fire protection and barrier-free design standards. Seventh, standardize the document and identification requirements for elevator safety parameters, clarify the preparation requirements for design documents, calculation sheets, test reports and operation manuals of elevator safety parameters, and unify the marking and publicity guidelines for elevator safety parameters. The release of this standard comprehensively standardizes the design and verification of elevator safety parameters in China, and improves the intrinsic safety level of elevator products.
