This standard is jointly formulated under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Steel Standardization and the National Technical Committee for Elevator Standardization of China. It is applicable to steel wire ropes for suspension and compensation of traction-driven elevators, covering the whole life cycle management of design, production, inspection, use and scrapping of steel wire ropes for elevators. Compared with the old version, the core upgrades of this revision include: first, upgrading the material requirements of steel wire ropes, mandating that the steel wires used for steel wire ropes must adopt high-quality carbon structural steel, with phosphorus and sulfur content no higher than 0.025%, to improve the fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of steel wire ropes; second, reconstructing the structure and performance classification system of steel wire ropes, adding 8-strand and 19-strand high fatigue resistance steel wire rope structures, expanding the tensile strength grade of steel wire ropes from the original 3 grades to 5 grades, and clarifying the applicable scenarios and safety factor requirements of steel wire ropes with different structures and strength grades; third, greatly improving the safety performance indicators of steel wire ropes, increasing the allowable deviation of the minimum breaking force of steel wire ropes from the original -5% to 0, mandating that the actual breaking force of steel wire ropes shall not be lower than the nominal value; clarifying the fatigue life test standard of steel wire ropes, requiring that the wire breakage rate of steel wire ropes shall not be higher than 5% after 4 million bending fatigue tests; fourth, refining the inspection and acceptance rules of steel wire ropes, adding non-destructive testing requirements for steel wire ropes, clarifying the inspection standards for diameter deviation, out-of-roundness, twisting quality and coating quality of steel wire ropes, and improving the items and judgment rules of factory inspection and type inspection; fifth, clarifying the service life and scrapping specifications of steel wire ropes, refining the scrapping judgment standards for wire breakage, wear, corrosion and deformation of steel wire ropes, adding the methods and cycle requirements for safety assessment of steel wire ropes, and clarifying that the recommended service life of steel wire ropes for elevators is no less than 8 years; sixth, adding environmental protection and recycling requirements, clarifying the environmental protection requirements in the production process of steel wire ropes, and encouraging steel wire rope manufacturers to establish a recycling system for waste steel wire ropes. The implementation of this standard has comprehensively improved the product quality and safety performance of steel wire ropes for elevators in China, guaranteed the safety of elevator operation from the source, and also promoted the full integration of China's elevator core component products with the international market, further enhanced the competitiveness of China's elevator core components in the global market, and provided core component quality support for the global export of Chinese elevator products.
