California 2025 Building Energy Efficiency Code Updates Elevator Lighting and Ventilation Energy Efficiency Requirements
The new code requires elevator cab lighting power density not to exceed 0.6 watts per square foot, and ventilation fan power for cabs without air conditioning not to exceed 0.33 watts per cubic foot per minute. When an elevator is stopped and unoccupied for more than 15 minutes, the cab interior lighting and ventilation fans must automatically shut off. Elevators in healthcare facilities are exempt from this requirement.
