EU Issued 2025 Version of European Standard for Elevator Maintenance Services
On March 18, 2025, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) officially issued the European standard EN 13015:2025 Maintenance service for lifts - Code of practice, replacing the old 2017 version, which will be officially implemented on September 1, 2025. This standard is the core mandatory standard for elevator maintenance services in the European Union. The core contents of this revision include: First, it refines the process and requirements of elevator maintenance services, and formulates differentiated maintenance items, frequency and operation specifications for different equipment types such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, escalators and moving walks. Second, it clarifies the qualification and capability requirements of elevator maintenance units, and standardizes the organization management, personnel allocation, equipment allocation and quality management system requirements of maintenance units. Third, it strengthens the qualification and training requirements of maintenance personnel, clarifies the mandatory standards for professional skills, training assessment and certification of maintenance personnel, requiring maintenance personnel to complete no less than 40 hours of continuing education and training every year. Fourth, it standardizes the quality acceptance and evaluation standards of maintenance services, and clarifies the quality judgment indicators, acceptance process and evaluation methods of maintenance services. Fifth, it adds the requirements for intelligent elevator maintenance services, and standardizes the application requirements of remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and intelligent diagnosis systems. Sixth, it clarifies the document management requirements of maintenance services, standardizes the preparation and archiving requirements of maintenance records, inspection reports and fault handling records, and the documents must be kept for at least 10 years. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national mandatory standard by all 27 EU member states, comprehensively improving the standardization level of elevator maintenance services in the EU region.
