On February 18, 2025, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) officially issued the European standard EN 16874:2025 Energy efficiency rating and labeling of elevators, which will be officially implemented on August 1, 2025. This standard is the first unified elevator energy efficiency rating standard in the European Union. The core contents include: First, it has established an elevator energy efficiency rating system, which divides elevator energy efficiency into 10 grades: A+++, A++, A+, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, among which A+++ is the highest energy efficiency grade and G is the lowest. Second, it clarifies the test method and calculation standard of elevator energy efficiency, standardizes the working conditions, process, data collection and calculation method of elevator energy consumption test, to ensure the accuracy and consistency of energy efficiency assessment results. Third, it refines the energy efficiency assessment requirements for different types of elevators, and formulates differentiated energy efficiency assessment benchmarks for different types of elevators such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, home elevators, and machine-room-less elevators. Fourth, it standardizes the design, production and posting requirements of elevator energy efficiency labels, clarifies that the energy efficiency label must be marked with core information such as energy efficiency grade, energy consumption value, test standard, etc. All newly installed elevators sold in the EU market must be posted with a unified energy efficiency label. Fifth, it clarifies the energy efficiency assessment requirements for energy-saving transformation of existing elevators, and provides assessment criteria for the energy efficiency improvement effect of existing elevator energy-saving transformation projects. The release of this standard has unified the elevator energy efficiency assessment standards of EU countries, promoted the green and low-carbon development of the EU elevator industry, and helped the EU achieve its carbon neutrality goal.
