China Issued National Standard GB/T 46500-2025 Carbon Footprint Accounting Method and Requirements for Elevators
On December 5, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China officially issued the national standard GB/T 46500-2025 Carbon Footprint Accounting Method and Requirements for Elevators, which will be officially implemented on June 1, 2026. This standard is China's first special national standard for the whole life cycle carbon footprint accounting of the elevator industry. The core contents include: First, clarify the scope of application of the standard, covering all types of equipment such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, escalators, moving walks, home elevators, and special elevators, applicable to the accounting, reporting, verification and declaration of the whole life cycle carbon footprint of elevators. Second, establish a whole life cycle carbon footprint accounting system for elevators, clarifying that the accounting boundary covers the whole life cycle stages of raw material acquisition, product manufacturing, transportation and installation, use and maintenance, transformation and upgrading, and scrapping and disposal. Third, standardize the carbon footprint accounting method, clarify the use of life cycle assessment (LCA) method, and formulate standardized rules for accounting process, functional unit, system boundary, data collection, emission factor selection, and emission calculation. Fourth, refine the classification of carbon emission accounting, dividing the whole life cycle carbon emission of elevators into five categories: raw material carbon emission, manufacturing process carbon emission, transportation and installation carbon emission, use stage carbon emission, and scrapping disposal carbon emission, and formulate detailed accounting rules for each category. Fifth, clarify the quality requirements for carbon footprint data, formulate the requirements for the integrity, accuracy, consistency, transparency and traceability of accounting data, and standardize the selection criteria for original data, secondary data and emission factors. Sixth, standardize the requirements for carbon footprint report and verification, clarify the preparation content, format requirements and disclosure guidelines of the elevator carbon footprint report, and formulate the process, method and qualification criteria for third-party verification. Seventh, standardize the requirements for carbon footprint declaration and labeling, clarify the content, form and use rules of elevator product carbon footprint declaration, and unify the labeling guidelines for low-carbon elevator products. The release of this standard fills the gap of unified national standards for carbon footprint accounting in China's elevator industry, and provides core technical support for the green and low-carbon transformation of the elevator industry, low-carbon product certification, and international mutual recognition of carbon footprint.
