On June 18, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China officially issued the national standard GB/T 46200-2025 Safety Technical Specification for Renovation of Old Elevators, which will be officially implemented on December 1, 2025. This standard is the first special national standard for the renovation of old elevators in China. The core contents include: First, it clarifies the scope of application and renovation classification of the standard, which is applicable to the renovation of in-use elevators that have been put into use for more than 15 years. The renovation is divided into three grades: overall renovation, major component renovation, and local safety improvement renovation, and the renovation requirements corresponding to different grades are clarified. Second, it standardizes the safety assessment requirements before the renovation of old elevators, clarifying that a comprehensive safety assessment must be carried out before the renovation, covering core dimensions such as equipment body, electrical system, safety components, structural strength, and operating performance, and a special renovation plan is formulated according to the assessment results. Third, it refines the technical requirements for the renovation of old elevators, and formulates mandatory technical standards for renovation design, material selection and construction technology for core components such as traction system, door system, control system, safety protection device, car and hoistway system. Fourth, it clarifies the construction and process control requirements for the renovation of old elevators, and standardizes the whole process requirements of safety protection, quality control and process inspection for renovation construction. Fifth, it has formulated the acceptance and inspection standards after the renovation of old elevators, and clarified the process, methods and judgment criteria of type test, on-site inspection and performance test after the renovation, which can only be put into use after passing the acceptance. Sixth, it standardizes the document management requirements for the renovation of old elevators, clarifies the preparation and archiving requirements for renovation plans, design calculation sheets, construction records, inspection reports and acceptance certificates, and the documents must be kept for at least 10 years. The release of this standard provides a unified technical specification for the renovation of old elevators in China, and comprehensively improves the safety and quality level of old elevator renovation.
