On February 25, 2025, China Elevator Association officially issued the association standard T/CEA/TS 0005—2025 Technical Requirements for Modernizing Existing Residential Elevators, which was officially implemented on the day of issuance. This standard is the first special technical specification for the whole process of upgrading and renovation of old residential elevators in China. The core contents include: first, clarifying the applicable scenarios and technical selection requirements for overall renewal, partial renewal and partial transformation of old residential elevators, providing standardized technical guidelines for old elevator upgrading projects; second, refining the technical requirements of the whole machine after the upgrading of old elevators, clarifying that the upgraded elevators must meet the requirements of the national standard GB/T 7588.1—2020 Safety Rules for the Construction and Installation of Lifts, and putting forward clear requirements for the elevator's operating speed, leveling accuracy, noise control and other performance indicators; third, standardizing the technical requirements for the renewal of main elevator components, and formulating detailed technical standards and test requirements for the replacement of core components such as traction machines, control cabinets, door systems and safety components; fourth, adding special technical requirements for aging adaptation and barrier-free transformation of old elevators, and clarifying the design and installation standards for the installation of barrier-free facilities; fifth, formulating the quality acceptance and quality assurance requirements for the upgrading of old elevators, standardizing the process, items and judgment standards of project acceptance, and clarifying the warranty period and service requirements of the upgraded elevators. The release of this standard provides a unified technical specification for the upgrading of old residential elevators in China, and helps to promote the urban renewal and the transformation of old residential areas.
