On July 20, 2025, Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MoEU) released Technical Specifications for Elevator Seismic Safety, implemented on January 1, 2026, responding to Turkey's high earthquake risk. Core requirements:

1. Seismic grade: Elevator seismic fortification intensity 9, meeting Turkey's highest earthquake zone requirements;

2. Structural strengthening: Seismic reinforcement of shaft truss, shock absorption device for machine base, anti-fall seismic support for car, seismic connection of guide rails;

3. Safety devices: Automatic braking, leveling, door opening in earthquake, emergency lighting, emergency communication, preventing trapping;

4. Emergency escape: Car emergency exit, shaft escape passage, rescue window, rapid evacuation after earthquake;

5. Old renovation: Existing elevators complete seismic upgrade by 2028, non-compliant elevators stopped;

6. Certification: Must pass Turkey TSE seismic certification, affix mark;

7. Maintenance: Seismic devices inspected monthly, tested annually, records archived. The new regulations improve Turkey elevator seismic safety capability.
