ISO/IEC 30141:2025 International Standard for Elevator IoT Released, Implemented from October 2025
On June 18, 2025, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) jointly issued ISO/IEC 30141:2025 Internet of Things - Interoperability Framework for Vertical Transportation Systems (Elevators) International Standard, jointly developed by ISO/IEC JTC 1 Information Technology Committee and ISO/TC 178 Elevator Technical Committee. It is the world's first special international standard for elevator IoT, and was officially implemented on October 1, 2025. The core contents of the standard include: First, system architecture, defining the three-layer elevator IoT architecture (perception layer, network layer, application layer), clarifying the functional modules, equipment interfaces and communication protocol specifications of each layer; Second, data transmission specifications, unifying the transmission format and protocol of elevator operation data, fault data, maintenance data and passenger data, supporting mainstream communication protocols such as MQTT, HTTP and TCP/IP, ensuring stable, safe and efficient data transmission; Third, interoperability requirements, stipulating the interface standards for elevator controllers, sensors, IoT terminals and cloud platforms of different brands, realizing cross-brand and cross-platform data intercommunication and functional interoperability, breaking the elevator IoT data island; Fourth, network security requirements, clarifying the technical specifications for elevator IoT network identity authentication, data encryption, access control, intrusion detection and security audit, preventing network attacks, data tampering and illegal access; Fifth, data security requirements, standardizing the whole-process security management of elevator operation data and passenger privacy data collection, storage, transmission and use, complying with global data compliance requirements such as GDPR and Personal Information Protection Law; Sixth, application scenarios, covering all-scenario applications such as elevator remote monitoring, intelligent fault diagnosis, predictive maintenance, emergency rescue, energy consumption monitoring and passenger service. The implementation of this standard will promote the standardized and standardized development of the global elevator IoT, and accelerate the digital transformation of the elevator industry.
