South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport released the Amendment to the Elevator Emergency Rescue Management Act on July 18, 2024, which comprehensively upgrades the domestic elevator emergency rescue system in South Korea. The regulation clearly requires that all in-use elevators in South Korea must be connected to the unified national intelligent elevator emergency rescue platform, to realize automatic alarm of trapped faults, automatic location positioning, and unified scheduling of rescue resources; at the same time, it stipulates that elevator maintenance units must establish a 24-hour emergency rescue duty system, and must arrive at the scene within 15 minutes after receiving the trapped alarm, and no more than 30 minutes in remote areas. The regulation also clarifies that the fire department is the main responsible body for the bottom line of elevator emergency rescue, and the fire department must immediately intervene in the rescue for faults that cannot be escaped in time. The amendment was officially implemented on March 1, 2025, and existing elevators must complete platform access and system upgrade before the end of 2026.
