ISO Issued ISO/TS 8100-10:2025 International Standard Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 10: Building Information Modelling
On June 18, 2025, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO/TS 8100-10:2025 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 10: Building Information Modelling, with the standard number ISO/TS 8100-10:2025, which is the world's first special international standard for elevator BIM technology. The core contents of the standard include: First, clarify the scope of application of the standard, covering BIM model design, development, application, data interaction and collaboration of elevators, escalators and moving walks, applicable to the whole process of elevator design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance, and transformation within the whole life cycle of the building. Second, establish a standardized architecture for elevator BIM models, standardize the unified standards for the hierarchical structure, information classification, data coding, and attribute definition of elevator BIM models, and realize seamless collaboration between elevator models and building BIM models. Third, unify the data specifications of elevator BIM models, formulate unified data formats and transmission protocols for elevator geometric information, physical information, performance information, operation and maintenance information, and safety information, and clarify the data intercommunication guidelines between different modeling software. Fourth, refine the requirements for the whole life cycle application of elevator BIM models, and formulate standardized application processes and technical requirements for elevator hoistway collaborative design in the architectural design stage, digital production in the manufacturing stage, construction simulation in the installation stage, digital twin in the operation and maintenance stage, and model update in the transformation stage. Fifth, standardize the classification standard of accuracy levels of elevator BIM models. According to different application scenarios, elevator BIM models are divided into 5 LOD accuracy levels, and the modeling requirements and application scenarios of each level are clarified. Sixth, clarify the verification and acceptance requirements of elevator BIM models, and formulate the verification methods and qualification criteria for model integrity, accuracy and compliance. After its release, the standard has been adopted as an industry technical specification by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, promoting the digital transformation of the global elevator industry and the coordinated development of the construction industry.
