ISO Issued International Standard for Technical Specification of Elevator Building Information Modelling (BIM)
On March 18, 2025, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO/TS 8100-10:2025 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 10: Building Information Modelling, which is the world's first special international standard for elevator BIM technology. The core contents of the standard include: First, it clarifies the scope of application and general requirements of elevator BIM technology, covering the BIM application of the whole life cycle of elevator design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance, transformation and scrapping, and adapts to various building information model platforms. Second, it has established a unified data architecture for elevator BIM models, standardized the classification coding, data structure, information granularity and attribute definition of elevator BIM models, and realized the standardization and structuring of elevator BIM data. Third, it refines the design requirements of the elevator BIM model, and formulates the modeling specifications, accuracy grade and level of detail (LOD) standards of the BIM model for core components such as elevator hoistway, machine room, car, guide rail, drive system and control system. Fourth, it standardizes the collaborative design requirements of elevator BIM models, and clarifies the BIM collaborative process, data interaction standards and version management requirements between different majors such as architectural design, structural design, elevator design, and electromechanical design. Fifth, it clarifies the application requirements of the elevator BIM model in the whole life cycle, and formulates the application specifications and data delivery standards of the BIM model for different stages such as elevator bidding, factory prefabrication, on-site installation, operation and maintenance management, transformation and upgrading, and demolition and scrapping. Sixth, it has formulated the quality inspection and acceptance standards for elevator BIM models, and clarified the inspection methods and judgment criteria for model integrity, accuracy and consistency. After its release, the standard has been adopted as an industry technical specification by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, promoting the digital and informatization transformation of the global elevator industry.
