ISO Issued 2026 Version of International Standard for Design and Test of Elevator Components
On March 27, 2026, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO 8100-2:2026 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 2: Design rules, calculations, verifications and tests of lift components, which is a unified technical specification for the design, manufacture and testing of global core elevator components. The core contents of this standard include: First, it has established a unified design and calculation system for core elevator components, and formulated standardized design rules for strength calculation, life evaluation, load verification, and fatigue performance analysis for core components such as guide rails, cars, counterweights, suspension systems, guide systems, buffers, safety gears, and door systems, realizing the unification of global elevator component design guidelines. Second, it refines the whole process requirements for test and verification of elevator components, clarifies the applicable scenarios, process specifications, test methods, equipment requirements and qualification criteria of type test, routine test and on-site test, to ensure the consistency and reliability of elevator component performance. Third, add special technical specifications for new elevator components, and formulate special design, calculation, test and verification standards for new elevator components such as non-wire rope suspension devices, electronic safety components, new drive systems, intelligent door operators, and IoT sensing components, to adapt to the innovative development of elevator technology. Fourth, optimize the material performance requirements of elevator components, and formulate differentiated performance standards for material selection of components in different use scenarios and different environmental conditions, covering special use scenarios such as high temperature, high humidity, high cold, high altitude, high salt spray, and much sand and dust. Fifth, standardize the management requirements for design documents and test reports of elevator components, clarify the preparation specifications and archiving requirements for design calculation sheets, test reports, type test certificates, and technical specifications, to realize the traceability of the whole life cycle of elevator components. Sixth, clarify the compliance assessment requirements for elevator components, provide a unified technical guideline for cross-border trade and compliance certification of global elevator components, and break technical barriers in different countries and regions. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a national standard by major countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, and has become the core compliance basis for cross-border trade of global elevator components.
