On March 27, 2026, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO 8100-1:2026 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 1: Safety rules for the construction and installation of passenger and goods passenger lifts, which is the core safety technical guideline for the global elevator industry and replaces the old standard that has been used for many years. The core upgrade contents of this standard revision include: First, add special safety requirements for non-wire rope suspension devices, and formulate complete design, test, inspection and life evaluation standards for new suspension systems such as carbon fiber and composite materials, filling the gap in global standards for new suspension technologies. Second, add a complete technical specification for electronic speed governors, clarify the design requirements, redundant design guidelines, fault monitoring mechanism, and type test process of electronic speed governors, to adapt to the technical development trend of intelligent elevators. Third, add special requirements for network security of elevator control systems, standardize the technical standards for network security protection, data encryption, access control, and intrusion detection of elevator electrical systems, to prevent the risk of network attacks and data leakage of intelligent elevators. Fourth, upgrade the safety requirements of the elevator door system, refine the mandatory standards for anti-pinch protection, mechanical strength, fault monitoring, and emergency unlocking of the door system, and greatly improve the safety protection level of passengers taking the elevator. Fifth, optimize the relevant requirements of elevator seismic resistance, fire protection and barrier-free design, and achieve coordination and unity with the latest special standards released around the world to ensure the consistency of the standard system. Sixth, refine the whole process specification of elevator installation and acceptance, clarify the standardized process of quality control, on-site inspection, performance test and safety verification during installation, and provide a unified guideline for global elevator installation and acceptance. After its release, the standard has been adopted by standardization institutions in most countries around the world, and has become the core reference basis for the revision of national elevator standards in various countries.
