On February 27, 2026, the General Administration of Technical Supervision of Mongolia officially notified the Elevator Safety Technical Code to the WTO, formulating a unified mandatory technical specification for all elevators and their safety devices used in Mongolia. The core contents include: First, clarify the scope of application of the code, covering all passenger elevators, freight elevators and supporting safety devices in use, newly installed and imported in Mongolia, including core safety components such as buffers, overspeed governors, landing door locks, and hydraulic safety devices. Second, define the scope of exemption. Elevators for mining mines, elevators for ships/floating structures, elevators for offshore drilling platforms, elevators for aircraft, rack and pinion/screw drive lifts, and elevators for special military purposes are not applicable to this code. Third, formulate the safety requirements for the whole life cycle of elevators, clarify the mandatory technical standards for the whole process of elevator design, manufacture, import, installation, maintenance and inspection, and all products must meet the requirements of the code before entering the Mongolian market. Fourth, strengthen the compliance control of imported products, clarify that imported elevators and safety components must provide complete type test reports, certificates of origin, and compliance certification documents, and products that do not meet the standards are prohibited from being imported, sold and used. Fifth, standardize the safety management of in-use elevators, clarify that in-use elevators must carry out regular compliance inspections, and establish complete maintenance and inspection files to ensure that elevators continue to meet safety standards. The code is currently in the public comment period, which ends on April 28, 2026, and will be officially released and implemented after the comment period.
