On March 27, 2026, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO 8100-1:2026 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 1: Safety rules for the construction and installation of passenger and goods passenger lifts, replacing the old core standard that has been used for many years, and is the core safety technical guideline for the global elevator industry. The core upgrade contents of this standard revision include: First, add special safety requirements for non-wire rope suspension devices, and formulate complete design, test, inspection and life evaluation standards for new suspension systems such as carbon fiber and composite materials, filling the standard gap of new technologies. Second, add the technical specifications of electronic speed governors, clarify the mandatory requirements for the design, redundant design, fault monitoring and type test of electronic speed governors, to adapt to the technical development trend of intelligent elevators. Third, add the network security requirements of the elevator control system, standardize the technical standards of network security protection, data encryption and access control of the elevator electrical system, to prevent the network attack risk of intelligent elevators. Fourth, upgrade the safety requirements of the elevator door system, refine the mandatory standards for anti-pinch protection, mechanical strength and fault monitoring of the door system, and improve the safety of passengers taking the elevator. Fifth, optimize the relevant requirements of elevator seismic resistance, fire protection and barrier-free design, and achieve coordination and unity with the latest special standards in the world. Sixth, refine the whole process specification of elevator installation and acceptance, and clarify the standardized process of quality control, on-site inspection and performance test during installation. After its release, the standard has been adopted by standardization institutions in most countries around the world, and has become the core reference basis for the revision of national elevator standards.
