On March 27, 2026, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued two core international standards: ISO 8100-1:2026 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 1: Safety rules for the construction and installation of passenger and goods passenger lifts and ISO 8100-2:2026 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 2: Design rules, calculations, verifications and tests of lift components, which are the core safety technical guidelines for the global elevator industry. The core updates of this standard include: First, adding complete technical requirements for non-wire rope suspended elevators, filling the gap in the specification of new suspension systems such as coated ropes and coated belts. Second, adding the design and test standards for electronic speed limiters and electronic safety devices, clarifying the performance and reliability requirements of electronic safety components. Third, adding network security and data protection requirements for intelligent elevators, and standardizing the safety protection design of elevator control systems. Fourth, refining the elevator seismic design and fatigue strength calculation standards to improve the safety performance requirements of the whole life cycle of elevators. Fifth, unifying the safety design and compliance assessment guidelines for elevator products around the world, and promoting the mutual recognition of global elevator standards and the facilitation of cross-border trade.
