ISO Issued 2024 Version of Specification for Elevator Certification Bodies
In June 2024, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the international standard ISO/TS 8100-23:2024 Lifts for the transport of persons and goods — Part 23: Requirements for bodies certifying lifts, model lifts, lift components and lift functions. This standard has formulated unified capability and management specifications for elevator product certification bodies around the world. The core contents include: first, clarifying the organization and management requirements of elevator certification bodies, standardizing the independence, impartiality and confidentiality management guidelines of certification bodies, to avoid conflicts of interest in the certification process; second, refining the capability requirements of personnel of certification bodies, clarifying the professional qualifications, training and assessment standards of auditors and technical experts, to ensure that certification and assessment personnel have corresponding professional capabilities; third, standardizing the whole-process requirements for elevator product certification, covering the operation specifications of the whole process of certification application, type test, factory audit, certificate issuance and post-certification supervision; fourth, clarifying the special requirements for the certification of elevator components and functions, and refining the certification assessment process and test standards for core safety components. The release of this standard has unified the access and management guidelines for elevator product certification bodies around the world, helped to improve the mutual recognition of global elevator certification results, and reduced the certification cost of cross-border trade of elevator products.
