Vietnam Issued New Preferential Policy on Elevator Import Tariff
On January 15, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, together with the Ministry of Finance, officially issued the Announcement on the Adjustment of Import Tariffs for Electromechanical Products under the RCEP Agreement, which made a special adjustment to the import tariff policy for complete elevator machines and core components. The core contents of the new policy include: first, based on the RCEP regional trade agreement, the import tariff on core elevator components (including traction machines, door operators, safety gears, buffers, control cabinets) originating from RCEP member countries will be reduced from the original 5% to 0, which will be officially implemented on March 1, 2026; second, for complete energy-saving elevator machines originating from RCEP member countries, the import tariff will be reduced from the original 10% to 3%, with a 3-year transition period, and will be gradually reduced to 0 tariff year by year; third, clarifying the origin certification standards for elevator products, refining the scope of application of the origin accumulation rules under RCEP, and simplifying the import customs clearance process; fourth, adding a green channel for import customs clearance for green energy-saving elevators and intelligent elevator products, shortening the customs clearance and inspection time. The implementation of this policy has greatly reduced the trade cost of elevator products from RCEP member countries entering the Vietnamese market, and further released the growth potential of the Vietnamese elevator market.
