International Association of Elevator Engineers Releases 2026 Global Ultra-High-Speed Elevator Technology Development Report
The report details the latest technological developments in ultra-high-speed elevators:
1) Carbon fiber rope technology: Compared with traditional steel wire ropes, carbon fiber ropes are lighter, stronger, and have longer service life, which can significantly increase the lifting height and operating speed of elevators. Currently, elevators using carbon fiber ropes have a maximum lifting height of over 600 meters and a maximum operating speed of 21m/s;
2) Magnetic levitation technology: Magnetic levitation elevators are driven by linear motors, eliminating the need for steel wire ropes and guide rails, and enabling free movement in both horizontal and vertical directions, which is a revolutionary breakthrough in future elevator technology;
3) Aerodynamic optimization: Reducing air resistance and noise during high-speed operation by optimizing the shape of elevator cars and the ventilation design of shafts;
4) Vibration and noise control: Adopting advanced shock absorption and sound insulation technologies to improve the riding comfort of ultra-high-speed elevators.
The report predicts that by 2030, the number of ultra-high-speed elevators worldwide will exceed 1,000.
