On May 21, 2024, the European Commission officially issued the Amendment to Elevator Directive 2014/33/EU, which comprehensively updated the compliance requirements for CE certification of elevator products entering the EU market. The core contents of this revision include: first, upgrading the conformity assessment process of the core safety components of elevators, requiring all core safety components to carry out full-project type tests by EU-recognized Notified Bodies (NB), and canceling the original self-declaration compliance mode for some components; second, adding mandatory assessment items for elevator energy-saving performance and barrier-free design, which are officially included in the mandatory inspection scope of CE certification; third, strengthening the manufacturer's responsibility for full life cycle product traceability, requiring the establishment of a complete full-process product traceability system, and compliance documents must be retained for at least 15 years; fourth, adding network security assessment requirements for elevator intelligent systems, and clarifying the software and data security compliance standards for intelligent elevators. The amendment officially took effect on January 1, 2025, with a 6-month transition period. From July 1, 2025, all newly installed elevators entering the EU market must meet the requirements of the new regulations.
