China Issued National Standard GB/T 18775-2025 Specification for the service of lifts, escalators and moving walks
On August 29, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China officially issued the national standard GB/T 18775-2025 Specification for the service of lifts, escalators and moving walks, which will be officially implemented on March 1, 2026, replacing the old version of GB/T 18775-2009. It is the core general technical and management specification for China's elevator maintenance industry. The core upgrade contents of this standard revision include: First, expand the scope of application of the standard, covering all types of equipment such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, home elevators, explosion-proof elevators, fire elevators, escalators, and moving walks, applicable to the whole process of daily maintenance, regular maintenance, fault repair, and overhaul transformation of the equipment. Second, establish a maintenance classification system. According to the service life, use scenario and operating status of the equipment, the maintenance service is divided into three grades: daily maintenance, special maintenance, and overhaul transformation. Differentiated maintenance items, frequency, technical requirements and acceptance standards are formulated for different grades. Third, refine the technical requirements for daily maintenance, and formulate detailed maintenance items, operation specifications, quality requirements and inspection methods for the mechanical system, electrical system, safety protection device, door system and drive system of elevators and escalators, and clarify the safe operation guidelines for maintenance operations. Fourth, add technical requirements for intelligent maintenance, formulate special technical specifications for elevator IoT remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, digital maintenance records, and remote fault diagnosis, and clarify the operation process, data security requirements and quality verification standards for intelligent maintenance. Fifth, standardize the management requirements for maintenance services, clarify the standardized requirements for the qualification capacity, quality management system, personnel training and assessment, and emergency rescue management of maintenance units, formulate the standard format and archiving requirements for maintenance contracts, maintenance records and maintenance reports, and the retention period of all maintenance records is not less than 4 years. Sixth, refine the technical requirements for overhaul and transformation, formulate the whole process standard of design review, construction specification, safety inspection and delivery acceptance for the overhaul and upgrading transformation of elevators and escalators, and clarify the safety performance verification criteria of the transformed equipment. Seventh, standardize the emergency rescue maintenance requirements, clarify the operation process, response time limit and safety guidelines for elevator entrapment rescue and fault emergency disposal, and formulate the requirements for emergency rescue equipment configuration, personnel training and drill. Eighth, add the requirements for maintenance service quality evaluation, formulate the evaluation indicators, evaluation methods and qualification criteria for maintenance service quality, and provide a standardized basis for the supervision of elevator maintenance service quality. The release of this standard fully adapts to the intelligent and digital development trend of China's elevator industry, standardizes the service process and technical requirements of the elevator maintenance industry, and comprehensively improves the standardized level of China's elevator maintenance industry.
