With the widespread application of IoT technology in the elevator industry, remote software updates have become a standard feature of smart elevators, but there was previously no unified international safety standard. The main contents of ISO/TS 8102-21:2026 include:

1.Clarifies the classification of software updates: on-site updates and remote updates

2.Specifies risk assessment requirements and verification procedures before software updates

3.Establishes a software version management and traceability system

4.Formulates security communication protocol requirements for remote updates

5.Clarifies emergency handling measures when software updates fail

6.Specifies the requirements and duration for keeping software update records

This standard does not apply to lifts, escalators and moving walks installed before February 2026. The publication of the standard will help regulate the global smart elevator market, improve the safety and reliability of software updates, and reduce elevator failures and safety accidents caused by software problems.
