ISO Issued ISO/TS 8100-22:2024 Lifts — Part 22: Prerequisites for conformity assessment of lifts and lift components Technical Specification
On December 12, 2024, the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization officially issued the technical specification ISO/TS 8100-22:2024 Lifts — Part 22: Prerequisites for conformity assessment of lifts and lift components, which will officially take effect on June 12, 2025. It is the first special general technical specification in the field of global elevator product certification and conformity assessment. The core contents of this technical specification include: First, clarify the scope of application of the specification, covering all types of equipment such as passenger elevators, freight elevators, escalators, moving walks, home elevators, special elevators, as well as core safety components and functional components of elevators, applicable to the whole process of conformity assessment, product certification, type test, inspection and testing of elevator products. Second, establish an elevator conformity assessment system, clarify the basic principles, process framework, evaluation modules, and qualification criteria for conformity assessment, and standardize the classification system for conformity assessment of complete elevator machines and components. Third, refine the conformity assessment requirements for complete elevator machines, and formulate the evaluation content, test methods, and qualification criteria for design conformity, manufacturing conformity, installation conformity, and safety performance conformity for different types of elevators. Fourth, standardize the conformity assessment requirements for core elevator components, and formulate special conformity assessment guidelines, type test requirements, and consistency inspection specifications for core components such as safety gears, speed governors, buffers, door lock devices, traction machines, control cabinets, and door operators. Fifth, clarify the requirements for conformity assessment institutions and personnel, formulate the qualification capacity, quality management system, and test equipment configuration requirements for conformity assessment institutions, and standardize the competency qualification, training assessment, and management guidelines for assessment personnel. Sixth, standardize the management requirements for conformity assessment documents and certificates, clarify the preparation requirements, content specifications, archiving and traceability requirements for conformity assessment reports, type test reports, and product certification certificates. Seventh, add the guidelines for global mutual recognition of conformity assessment, formulate the technical prerequisites and process specifications for the mutual recognition of elevator conformity assessment results in different countries and regions, promote the international mutual recognition of global elevator product certification, and reduce technical trade barriers. After its release, this technical specification has been adopted as the technical basis for product certification by many countries and regions around the world such as the European Union, China, the United States and Japan, which will comprehensively unify the technical standards for global elevator conformity assessment and promote the trade facilitation of the global elevator industry.
