IEC Issued 2024 Version of International Standard for Special Fire Control of Elevators
On November 18, 2024, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), together with the ISO/TC 178 Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization, officially issued the international standard ISO/TR 8101-10:2024 Fire safety on lifts — Part 10: Comparison of safety standards worldwide on lifts used by firefighters and for building evacuation, which is the core technical specification in the field of elevator fire control worldwide. The core contents of the standard include: First, it systematically sorts out the safety standards for firefighters' elevators and evacuation elevators in major countries and regions around the world, compares and analyzes the standard differences in ISO, the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, Australia and other countries and regions, and puts forward the global unified technical coordination direction. Second, it clarifies the core technical requirements for the design, manufacture, installation and inspection of firefighters' elevators, and standardizes the mandatory standards for fire resistance, waterproof performance, power supply reliability, emergency control and communication system of firefighters' elevators. Third, it refines the control logic requirements of elevators in fire scenarios, clarifies the standardized process of elevator forced landing, door opening, power off, and special control for firefighters in fire state, to ensure the safety of firefighters' rescue operations. Fourth, it standardizes the design and application requirements of evacuation elevators, and formulates technical standards for safety design, operation control and emergency support of evacuation elevators for the fire personnel evacuation scenario of high-rise buildings. Fifth, it clarifies the test and acceptance requirements of the elevator fire protection system, and formulates the standardized process and judgment criteria for function test, performance test and on-site acceptance of firefighters' elevators and evacuation elevators. Sixth, it puts forward the requirements for the whole life cycle management of elevator fire safety, covering the fire safety control of the whole process of design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance, and inspection. After its release, the standard has been adopted as a reference basis for elevator fire protection design by many countries and regions around the world, promoting the coordination and unification of global elevator fire safety standards.
