National Standard GB/T 31095-2026 Lifts Subject to Seismic Conditions Officially Released
This standard is formulated under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Elevator Standardization of China. It is applicable to traction and positive drive lifts installed in areas with seismic fortification intensity of 6 to 9 degrees, covering the whole life cycle management of elevator seismic design, component selection, installation and acceptance, daily operation and maintenance, and earthquake emergency response. Compared with the old version, the core upgrades of this revision include: first, reconstructing the elevator seismic grade classification system, dividing the elevator seismic grade into four grades Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ according to the seismic fortification intensity of the building and the elevator use scenario, and clarifying the applicable scenarios and core technical requirements of elevators of different grades; second, refining the seismic design specifications of core components, formulating special technical indicators for seismic strength, stiffness and anchorage for key structures such as elevator guide rails, brackets, guide components, cars, counterweights and door systems, and clarifying the seismic components and protective devices that must be equipped for elevators in areas with seismic fortification intensity of 7 degrees and above; third, adding seismic monitoring and emergency control requirements, mandating that elevators in areas with seismic fortification intensity of 8 degrees and above must be equipped with seismic monitoring devices, and clarifying the emergency control logic of automatic leveling, door opening and shutdown of elevators after the trigger of earthquake early warning signals; fourth, improving the elevator seismic performance test and acceptance standards, formulating the test methods and judgment criteria for elevator component seismic vibration test and complete machine seismic performance verification, and adding the safety assessment specification for seismic performance of in-service elevators; fifth, refining the requirements for elevator inspection and recovery after earthquakes, clarifying the inspection items, judgment standards and recovery process of elevators after earthquakes of different magnitudes, and eliminating the safety risk of elevators operating with faults after earthquakes. The implementation of this standard has comprehensively improved the seismic safety technology level of elevators in China, guaranteed the operation safety of elevators in earthquake-prone areas from the source, and also provided standardized technical support for the export of Chinese elevator products to earthquake-prone areas such as Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, further enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese elevator products in the global special working condition market.
