On May 5 and 17, 2023, the 32nd Southeast Asian Games held a grand opening and closing ceremony at the Cambodian National Stadium, which was assisted by the Chinese government and built by China Construction and operated the Canny elevator. This is the first time for Cambodia to host a comprehensive sports event in Southeast Asia, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen attended and presided over the ceremony.


Under the slogan "Sport: Live in Peace", the Southeast Asian Games will see nearly 7,000 athletes from 11 countries compete, push their limits and surpass themselves, and are expected to attract millions of international visitors to Cambodia.



Located in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, the National Stadium of Cambodia is the largest and highest-grade stadium built by the Chinese government with foreign aid so far. On September 12, 2021, then Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the handover ceremony of the project. Because it looks like a ship, it is known as the "boat of China-Cambodia friendship". The design of the "Giant wheel" fully integrates the characteristic elements of the traditional Cambodian festival Dragon Boat Festival, the moat of Angkor Wat, the Buddhist "Namaste", and the national flower, such as the Dragon Du Flower, to complement Chinese wisdom and Chinese quality, and jointly achieve this national landmark building of Cambodia with a great collection of culture.
