In November 2025, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) officially issued two core European standards, EN ISO 8100-1:2025 Safety Rules for the Construction and Installation of Lifts and EN ISO 8100-2:2025 Requirements for the Calculation, Testing and Documentation of Lift Components, officially completing the replacement of the original EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 standards, and realizing the full integration of European elevator standards with ISO international standards. The core changes of this series of standards include: first, adding the technical requirements for non-wire rope suspended elevators, filling the gap in the original standards for elevators with new suspension systems; second, adding the design and test standards for electronic speed limiters, clarifying the performance and reliability requirements of electronic safety components; third, adding the network security and data protection requirements for intelligent elevators, and standardizing the design and evaluation guidelines for elevator intelligent systems; fourth, refining the fatigue strength calculation and durability test standards of elevator components, and improving the safety performance requirements of the whole life cycle of elevators; fifth, unifying the safety design and compliance assessment guidelines for elevator products in EU member states, and eliminating technical trade barriers in the EU internal market. This series of standards will officially take effect in EU member states on June 1, 2026, and the original EN 81 series standard certificates will have a 2-year transition period, during which the standard conversion and certificate update will be completed.
