US Released Elevator Carbon Neutrality Regulations, Green Certification Mandatory from 2026
On December 15, 2025, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) jointly with Ministry of Housing released Elevator Industry Carbon Neutrality Implementation Act, implemented on January 1, 2026. Core contents:
1. Mandatory certification for new elevators: All newly installed elevators must obtain US LEED green elevator certification from 2026, meeting level 1 energy efficiency, low-carbon materials, recyclable ≥90%, zero CFC;
2. Stock transformation target: Carbon neutrality transformation synchronized with old elevator renewal from 2027, 70% of stock compliant by 2030, 90% by 2035, 100% by 2040;
3. Technical requirements: Permanent magnet synchronous machine, energy feedback, intelligent standby, LED lighting mandatory, standby energy consumption reduced by 50%, carbon emission intensity reduced by 45%;
4. Financial incentives: 35% equipment subsidy for carbon neutral elevators, full exemption of green certification fees;
5. Supervision measures: Uncertified new elevators banned from sale, carbon tax imposed on non-compliant stock, fine for exceeding standard from 2028. Act promotes comprehensive green low-carbon transformation of US elevator industry.
